TomTom History

TomTom is the world’s largest provider of navigation solutions. Founded in 1991 in Amsterdam TomTom have became leaders in their field by continually placing an emphasis on innovation, quality, ease of use, safety and value on all their products.

 

1991 seen Peter-Frans Pauwels and Pieter Geelen kick things off by starting the company Palmtop, whose aim was to develop applications for the first generation of hand held computers.

 

These applications brought great success and too the introduction of Corinne Vigreux to the team in 1994. The growth of the hand held market excelled even faster with the Palm Pilot release in 1996 leading the way.

 

Harold Goddijn became the fourth full partner to join the team in 2001 and began by changing the company's name to TomTom. Within the same year the company saw the launch of the first mobile in-car navigation system, TomTom Navigator. TomTom Navigator 2 followed in 2003 and then later the first TomTom Go in spring of 2004.

 

Research has shown that the wide use of TomTom GPS has had a positive effect on driving and road safety. TomTom's all-in-one navigation devices enable customers to navigate right out of the box hence their global slogan "Find your way the easy way" and include the award-winning TomTom GO family, the TomTom ONE XL, TomTom ONE and the TomTom RIDER range.

 

TomTom products are sold through a worldwide network of more than 30 major high street and online retailers including Amsterdam, London, Massachusetts and Taiwan.
